Organizational Effectiveness: Boosting employee and management engagement

This large financial services firm was concerned about low engagement scores across both employees and management—which presented major obstacles to achieving quality and efficiency targets. ClearSpace successfully engaged not only employee groups, but also middle management teams and senior leaders to drive sustained change throughout the organization.

Scope

True engagement comes from a sense of ownership, accomplishment and recognition. This project involved a production environment that was focused more on errors and blame than accomplishment and pride. The scope required understanding the organizational dynamics and shifting attitudes and practices.

Approach

  • Held focus groups with employee groups to identify some of the most significant challenges to engagement

  • Facilitated multiple learning sessions with employee teams to generate new approaches for working together in both mindsets and behaviors

  • Engaged in six-month team development programs with two middle management leadership teams to learn and practice new levels of trust, peer-to-peer accountability, productive conflict and focus on results

  • Provided coaching for senior leaders to help create a more inclusive, engaged culture for employees at all levels

  • Individual executive coaching for high level leadership to help them model new behaviors and lead change

Results

  • Increased focus on positive results rather than errors, along with increased learning and continuous improvement

  • Heightened collaboration and resource sharing, rather than competition and protectiveness

  • Increased levels of employee engagement and satisfaction
